Oh, to be an innocent bystander alongside the tracks of the Rhine railroad in the Netherlands that day in 1842. Along came a train with an open car full of trumpeters blowing with all their might. Another group of musicians could be seen on the platform of the train station, ears cocked, furiously scribbling down notes as the train pulled in. What in heaven's name was going on?
